Operation Christmas Child
It’s absolutely amazing the joy that a shoebox of simple items can bring to a needy child. In many cases, the gift boxes have contained a child’s first ever toy, but more importantly, has lead to the sharing of the gospel message of Jesus Christ.
About Operation Christmas Child
Since 1993, Samaritan’s Purse has collected and delivered more than 113 million gift-filled shoeboxes to children in over 150 countries through Operation Christmas Child (OCC).
Shoebox gifts are collected in the United States, Australia, Austria, Canada, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
More than 500,000 volunteers worldwide, with more than 100,000 of those in the United States, are involved in collecting, shipping, and distributing shoebox gifts.
OCC at Charleston Baptist Church
Everyone is welcome to pack a shoebox gift, or two, or three, etc! Items such as: school supplies, small toys, socks, cups, small tools, craft items, and toiletries are great things to put in the gift; however there are some limitations. Please do not pack: liquids, glass items, food, candy, or toothpaste. All boxes will be due at the church in November.
OCC Shoebox Packing Party at Charleston Baptist Church
Three years ago, CBC was asked to participate in packing shoeboxes for “hard to reach” areas. These special shoebox gifts are delivered to areas where the Gospel may not be allowed. There are many items needed to go into these shoeboxes. The OCC ministry collects items for this endeavor throughout the year. Items needed are as follows: socks, flip-flops/shoes, pencils, erasers, pens, glue sticks, notebooks, crayons, colored pencils, markers, pencil sharpeners, rulers, toothbrushes, washcloths, sewing kits, combs, small plush animals, small toys, balls, ball pumps, drinking cups.
